Catch basin

A drainage box in the yard that collects runoff and routes it to pipes.

A catch basin (or yard drain) is the grated box set into low spots of a yard or driveway to capture rainwater and send it into underground drainage. The basin's bottom traps sediment and debris so it doesn't clog the pipes downstream. Clear leaves off the grate and scoop out the sump occasionally; a clogged catch basin sends water pooling toward the foundation.
